🎸 A Note from Rees, the guy who built this

I had this idea over 15 years ago. A music lover and hobby guitarist myself, I was frustrated — every chord chart I found online was a mess. Chords positioned in the wrong places, wrong timing, often even the wrong chords. I knew exactly what I wanted to build, but didn't have the abilities yet.

My first versions of my vision were actually made in Adobe Premiere. I manually placed chords frame by frame above the text with the song playing in the background. Each one took about 30 to 40 hours to make. The budding musicians I played with loved them, and I knew I was onto something — but there was no way I was going to make more than the handful I had already made. Plus I wanted a community to build it with me.

I believed so deeply in the idea that I came up with the name Chordinates — coordinates for musical chords — and bought chordinates.com over 15 years ago. I kept paying for it every single year, just holding onto the dream that one day I'd figure it out.

I tried and failed more times than I can count. I studied, came back, got lost, put it down, picked it back up. Over and over for years.

It is honestly a surreal dream to see it live as a real app today.

Chordinates is just me — a passionate musician, a dad teaching his son to play, and someone who refused to give up on an idea he believed in. When you join Chordinates, you're not subscribing to a faceless company. You're supporting a real person and his family, and together we're making the world a little better through music.

I endeavor to read every message. I want to hear what you think, what's broken, what you wish it could do.
